Night in The Hide (Taman Negara)
It is well worth spending a night in one of the wildlife observation
hides, even if only to sample the rich variety of forest sounds.
All except Bumbun Cegar Anjing are built overlooking saltlicks,
where plant-eating animals come to supplement their mineral intake.

Visit To Orang Asli Settlements (Taman Negara)
"Orang Asli" simply means "original people"
in the Malay language. The Orang Asli live a nomadic lifestyle in
Taman Negara, calling themselves Batek. The Batek are a race of
people, gentle, short in stature, dark-skinned and with tight curly
hair. Their settlements are found along the trails. Some settlements
are accessible by boat.
Cave
Exploration (Taman Negara)
Gua Teliga (Ear Cave) has rock formation in the shape of an ear.
Gua Kepayang and Gua Daun Menari (Dancing Leaves Cave) are some
of the few limestone outcrops that you can explore along with animals
and insects that live in the caves.

Fishing
(Taman Negara)
Fishing is one of the main attractions in Taman Negara. Fishing
permits issued to visitors cost RM10.00 per rod and apply only to
the waters of Sungai Tahan below Lata Berkoh and Sungai Keniam below
Kuala Keniam Kecil. Fishing tends to be best in the drier months
of February to April and June to August.
Shooting
The Rapids (Taman Negara)
Travelling upstream on Sungai Tembeling from Kuala Tahan is an exhilarating
experience. One must be prepared to get drenched as the boat has
to negotiate 7 sets of rapids. The journey to Kuala Trenggan takes
about 45 minutes. Kuala Trenggan is 9.1 km from Mutiara Taman Negara.
Jungle
Trekking (Taman
Negara)
Jungle treks of various duration, some up to nine days, are possible.
Trekking requires considerable preparations and a guide must be
taken on all long trekking journeys. Although challenging, the jungle
treks prove to be an equally rewarding authentic jungle adventure.
Bukit
Teresek (Taman
Negara)
Enjoy the panoramic views of Gunung Tahan and the forest canopies
that cover the hills and verdant valleys at the hilltop. This 334
metre hill can be reached within 45 minutes. Bukit Teresek is 1.7
km from Mutiara Taman Negara.
Lata
Berkoh (Taman
Negara) A
spectacular cascade that marks the limit of easy navigability on
the river. There is a deep pool
below
the cascade and a rocky area overlooking the rapids. An ideal site
for a picnic. Lata Berkoh is 8 km from Mutiara Taman Negara.
Gunung
Tahan (Taman
Negara) Climb
Gunung Tahan, the highest peak in Peninsular Malaysia - a challenge
that demands physical
fitness
and intense willpower along with good equipment and a guide. Trail
is 55 km from Mutiara

Four
Steps Waterfall (Taman
Negara) The
eastern flanks of Gunung Tahan and Gunung Gedong drop off very sharply
into the headwaters of Sungai Tahan. One of the tributaries in the
Ulu Tahan plunges and cascades spectacularly down the mountainside
in what is known as the Four Steps Waterfall. The waterfall is 50
km from from Mutiara Taman Negara. |
