You
will visit the Bidayuhs, formerly known as the Land Dayaks during
the era of the Brookes and British colonial rule at Anah Rais. It
is one of the many longhouses that dot the landscapes of Sarawak
and is located at 100 kms from Kuching and quite close to the Indonesian
Border. It is a popular destination because of its scenic surroundings
and its size, which is large even by Sarawak’s standard. After that,
you will visit the Kampong Mujatlonghouse. Kampong Mujat longhouse
is the home for the Bidayuh tribe (known as the Land Dayaks during
the Colonial days). The journey takes about 2 hours drive by coach
along Kuching-Serian-Tebakang-Mongkos roads of which 80 Km is sealed
road and 20 Km of gravel feeder road. There are over 100 Bidayuh
families with a population of more than 800 people, of which 36
families prefer to stay put in the longhouse. The longhouse in its
typical and authentic style is made of hardwood and split bamboo
flooring, though modernisation takes its course (electricity available).
Like any other longhouse, the journey enroute is interesting, passing
through scenic and undulating virgin and secondary jungles, native
farmlands, padi fields, pepper orchards, and rubber plantation.
