Farquhar Street, 10200 Penang, Malaysia. |
|
The
Eastern & Oriental Hotel or more fondly referred to as the E
& O, is hard to miss, let alone forget. Standing majestically
along Farquhar Street, she welcomes you in her glorious white gown
as you drive up the courtyard, to the hotel's main entrance. Here
a porter awaits. The sight of him clad in his uniform - complete
with gloves, knee-high socks and a bright, cheerful smile - is sure
to set you down memory lane, to the colonial days of Malaya.
Re-opening
in the wake of the new millennium, the Eastern & Oriental heralds
a return to elagance as it proudly reclaims its heritage as the
premier hotel east of the Suez.
The
hotel is situated in Georgetown at the intersection of Farquhar
Road and Penang Road.
Within
easy walking distance are Fort Cornwallis, the Penang State Museum,
temples, mosques, churches and resplendent mansions of some of the
island's founding families. Also close by are shops, bazaars and
restaurants. |
