TRANSPORTATION

Air
Langkawi is easily accessible by air, sea, rail and road. From Malaysia's capital city Kuala Lumpur (koo-ah-la--loom-puohr), or Penang, you can take a direct flight on the national carrier Malaysia Airlines (MAS) daily. Malaysia Airlines and Silk Air operates direct flights from Singapore to the island. The Kuala Lumpur - Langkawi flight normally takes about 45 minutes.

Sea
There are regular ferry services from the mainland's Kuala Perlis or Kuala Kedah - two ferry points. Travel time differs depending on the exit point as well as mode of transport - motorboat or catamaran. Generally, it takes about 45 minutes to 80 minutes. Visitors from Penang can take a daily ferry to Langkawi. The ferry operates twice a day and the ride takes about three hours. Pulau Langkawi (Langkawi Island) is also easily accessible by ferry from neighboring Satun (Thailand). This journey takes about 45 minutes.

Road
The North-South Expressway - from Kuala Lumpur to Perlis - is a five-hour journey, after which you have to board a ferry to the island. Buses, taxis and rent-a-car services are easily available from all city centres on the mainland.

Rail
Rail services operate from Kuala Lumpur to Alor Setar daily. From Alor Setar, it is a short taxi ride to the ferry terminal at Kuala Kedah.

Getting Around
Public transport in Pulau Langkawi (Langkawi Island) is largely provided by taxis. Taxis fares are priced based on the destination, not by meter. It is best to seek the assistance of the resort concierge to arrange bookings and fares with the taxi drivers.
