TRANSPORTATION
Air
Langkawi is easily accessible by air, sea,
rail and road. From Malaysia's capital city
Kuala Lumpur (koo-ah-la--loom-puohr), or Penang,
you can take a direct flight on the national
carrier Malaysia Airlines (MAS) daily. Malaysia
Airlines and Silk Air operates direct flights
from Singapore to the island. The Kuala Lumpur
- Langkawi flight normally takes about 45
minutes.
Sea
There are regular ferry services from the
mainland's Kuala Perlis or Kuala Kedah - two
ferry points. Travel time differs depending
on the exit point as well as mode of transport
- motorboat or catamaran. Generally, it takes
about 45 minutes to 80 minutes. Visitors from
Penang can take a daily ferry to Langkawi.
The ferry operates twice a day and the ride
takes about three hours. Pulau Langkawi (Langkawi
Island) is also
easily accessible by ferry from neighboring
Satun (Thailand). This journey takes about
45 minutes.
Road
The North-South Expressway - from Kuala Lumpur
to Perlis - is a five-hour journey, after
which you have to board a ferry to the island.
Buses, taxis and rent-a-car services are easily
available from all city centres on the mainland.
Rail
Rail services operate from Kuala Lumpur to
Alor Setar daily. From Alor Setar, it is a
short taxi ride to the ferry terminal at Kuala
Kedah.
Getting Around
Public transport in Pulau Langkawi (Langkawi
Island) is largely provided
by taxis. Taxis fares are priced based on
the destination, not by meter. It is best
to seek the assistance of the resort concierge
to arrange bookings and fares with the taxi
drivers. Tanjung Rhu Resort also provides
self-drive Peugeots, chauffeur-driven limousines,
and van shuttle services for guests.
