As elsewhere in the world, rivers played an important role in
the establishment of the first kingdoms as well as the growth
of the early settlements. It is generally known that most of the
town derived their name from river. Whist Kenyir Lake is taken
from the name of Kenyir River. The rivers generally flow in abundance,
a result of the high rainfall and relatively undisturbed catchments.
These catchments area gush continuously throughout the year, bringing
with them the products of water’s action and the result
of generating electricity through out Malaysia.
Several rivers still flow from the north of the lake such as
Siput, Mandak, Petuan, Tembat and Terengganu. Whereas from the
west are Belimbing, Ketiar, Papan and Kerbat Rivers. If you are
from south of Kenyir Lake you will find Lawit, Cenana, Cicir,
perpek, Chaching, Terengganu, Pertang and Lasir River. Meanwhile
from the east flows the river of Kenyir and Galang. There are
14 waterfalls found and flow rapidly around the lake. The most
famous are Lasir Waterfall (nearby Uncle John Resort), Tembat
Waterfall (just a minute to Musang Kenyir Resort) and Saok Waterfall.
