Kelantan

Located on the northeast coast of peninsula Malaysia, Kelantan borders Thailand. Kuala Lumpur is described as the heart of Malaysia with Kelantan being its soul. The Kelantanese are culturally orientated, with traditional skills such as playing the rebana (giant drums) gasing competitions (top spinning), wau (kite making and flying), wayang kulit shows, carpentry, silverware and brassware. Kelantan’s history dates back 2000 years, when people migrated south towards the Malay peninsula. Kelantan was then part of the ancient kingdom of Langkasuka, which is a part of southern Thailand today. It was in Kampung Pak Amat Kelantan, (13 km from Kota Bahru) that the Japanese first landed during the World War II.
